DIAS Making Meetings Work and Better Outcomes from Meetings Training
Parent Carer and member of the SEND Local Offer Reference Group (LORG), Jane Ring, has been working with Devon Information, Advice and Support for SEND (DIAS) to develop training sessions for parent carers and practitioners, focused on making meetings work. There are two separate training sessions: Making Meetings Work, which is aimed at practitioners and professionals, and Better Outcomes from Meetings, which is aimed at parent carers.
“The training I have developed for DIAS is specifically around the often difficult SEND meeting process. Its focus for parents is around their rights and responsibilities which ensure they get the best outcomes for their child. There is a large part which is about taking responsibility for your actions and understanding all the emotions and experiences we carry that get in the way of positive dialogue. I continue to have very positive responses from the training with feedback that one of its strengths is that it is delivered by parent carers who understand the participants’ point of view. One of my aims this year is to try and get more professionals to take up the training as it is completely free and should improve their relationships with parent carers.”
