Important changes to the Disabled Children’s Service Direct Payment policy

The Disabled Children’s Service has provided a more flexible approach to Direct Payments during the pandemic to support children, young people and their families.

As Government restrictions ease, children and young people return to school, and with the vast majority of community short breaks provision now running, the Disabled Children’s Service has reviewed the flexibilities which have been in place. Parent Carer Forum Devon have told us that families want to be given sufficient notice of any changes that are made and that some families are worried about the coming Easter holidays. We have therefore decided that the flexibilities to the Direct Payment policy will now cease at midnight on Sunday 18 April 2021. From this date, the Disabled Children’s Service will work in line with the substantive Direct Payment policy, and parents and carers will be required to access the Direct Payment in line with their child’s support plans. This means that the £250 flexible spend per month will no longer be available.
