Andy is 17 years old and not in employment, education or training (NEET). He had an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) as he has a moderate learning disability.
He did not leave school with many qualifications as he struggles to read and write. He enjoys helping his dad to do manual work and shows great potential for working on planning and building projects.
Andy is really interested in getting an apprenticeship but feels he needs to improve his maths and English skills to help him do this.
A CSW Group community engagement adviser worked with Andy and identified that he would benefit from doing a traineeship. This would help him improve his maths and English and gain the skills he would need to find an apprenticeship.
Andy did really well on the course and is now doing an apprenticeship in bricklaying.
Andy’s journey began with a traineeship then moved on to an apprenticeship and finished with employment.
