{"id":3967,"date":"2021-09-06T10:00:50","date_gmt":"2021-09-06T09:00:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/economy\/?page_id=3967"},"modified":"2024-08-20T11:19:37","modified_gmt":"2024-08-20T10:19:37","slug":"community-energy-fund","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/economy\/funding-and-research\/community-energy-fund\/","title":{"rendered":"Community Energy Fund &#8211; Closed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Devon County Council has launched a new fund to support the Community Energy sector in Devon<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>What is Community Energy?<\/h2>\n<p>Community-led energy projects bring people together to secure the energy supply for their local area. The Community Energy sector encompasses collective action at a local level to reduce, purchase, manage and generate energy, ultimately enabling the local community to benefit collectively from the outcomes.<\/p>\n<p>Activity can include reducing demand, improving energy efficiency or increasing the amount of energy generated from low-carbon and renewable sources.<\/p>\n<h2>Community Energy Fund<\/h2>\n<p>The Community Energy Fund was set up to support the recovery of businesses and the wider economy of Devon following the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>The key objective of this fund is to support, develop and fund a small number of high-quality Community Energy initiatives that will help to advance and strengthen the Community Energy sector in Devon.<\/p>\n<p>Grants were provided to voluntary, community and public-sector organisations across Devon to help support Community Energy initiatives that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>improve the capacity of existing community energy companies in Devon to develop successful community energy projects<\/li>\n<li>increase the number of community energy companies in Devon<\/li>\n<li>provide accredited training that helps to move the community energy sector forward, particularly accredited retrofit training<\/li>\n<li>increase public awareness of the benefits of community energy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Successful Projects<\/h3>\n<p>Six projects were successful in receiving funding to create new energy companies, deliver additional training places, and engage communities in the Community Energy sector. These were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.regen.co.uk\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Regen South West<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/devonenergycic.co.uk\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Devon Energy Collective<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.regen.co.uk\/project\/power-allotments-devon\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Power Allotments<\/a> &#8211; this project created an online toolkit for use by Devon&#8217;s citizens to identify potential sites for renewable energy sites that Regen will then analyse and prioritise for future opportunities<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecoe.org.uk\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Exeter Community Energy<\/a> &#8211; this project recruited and trained additional Home Energy Advisors, Retrofit Coordinators, Retrofit Assessors, and Community Energy Champions to increase organisational capacity and deliver energy efficiency advice and solutions<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/hofdce.co.uk\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Heart of Devon Community Energy<\/a> &#8211; Community Wind Turbine project has set up a new Community Interest Company to engage citizens and do feasibility work to bring forward a new, community owned wind turbine in Mid Devon<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sdce.org.uk\/\" rel=\"noopener\">South Dartmoor Community Energy<\/a> &#8211; Equipping for Retrofit Rollout &#8211; this project has upskilled members of the SDCE Team to deliver complex retrofit advice that aligns with provision across the County<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/tamarenergycommunity.com\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Tamar Energy Community<\/a> &#8211; Retrofit Service Ready &#8211; this project has delivered tailored retrofit advice to enable the TEC Team to become accredited Retrofit Advisors, Assessors, and Coordinators<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/tresoc.co.uk\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Totnes Renewable Energy Society<\/a> &#8211; Solar Roofs and Energy Local Clubs &#8211; this project has developed community owned solar PV installations and<a href=\"https:\/\/tresoc.co.uk\/energy-local-totnes-launch\/\" rel=\"noopener\"> established a Totnes Energy Local Clu<\/a>b to buy this power, lowering energy costs for local residents<\/li>\n<li><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Can I apply?<\/h2>\n<p>The Community Energy Fund is now closed to applications with the full funding amount allocated.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Devon County Council has launched a new fund to support the Community Energy sector in Devon What is Community Energy?
