{"id":3528,"date":"2024-03-27T08:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-03-27T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/economy-enterprise-skills\/?p=3528"},"modified":"2024-03-26T16:41:22","modified_gmt":"2024-03-26T16:41:22","slug":"supported-internship-day-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/economy-enterprise-skills\/supported-internship-day-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Supported Internship Day 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Today (27 March 2024) is Supported Internship Day and Devon County Council are helping to raise awareness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is a supported internship?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A supported internship is an education programme in a workplace setting designed to help young people with disabilities transition from school to employment. The internships provide opportunities for individuals aged 16 to 24 who have an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan to gain practical work experience in a real workplace setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Placements are supported by a job coach and last between 6 month and 1 year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Supported internships can help young people:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>work towards financial independence<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>building confidence and self-esteem<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>increasing health and well-being&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>gaining friendships and a social life&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>learning new skills that could be used in future employment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>gaining an accredited and practical qualification<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Devon County Council (DCC) are working with local college providers and employers to ensure that our young people with special educational needs or disabilities href=\"https:\/\/www.ndti.org.uk\/change-and-development\/internships-work\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.ndti.org.uk\/change-and-development\/internships-work\" rel=\"noopener\">Internship<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ndti.org.uk\/change-and-development\/internships-work\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.ndti.org.uk\/change-and-development\/internships-work\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">s<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ndti.org.uk\/change-and-development\/internships-work\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.ndti.org.uk\/change-and-development\/internships-work\" rel=\"noopener\"> Work <\/a>is a project funded by the Department for Education which will enable 4500 young adults, aged 16-25 with additional needs, to benefit from a supported internship per year by
