{"id":20017,"date":"2026-09-23T15:01:46","date_gmt":"2026-09-23T14:01:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/devonhighways\/?page_id=20017"},"modified":"2026-10-02T11:19:46","modified_gmt":"2026-10-02T10:19:46","slug":"chapter-8-training-for-road-wardens","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/devonhighways\/chapter-8-training-for-road-wardens","title":{"rendered":"Chapter 8 Training for Road Wardens"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Road Wardens can request Chapter 8 training for volunteers taking part in the Road Warden Scheme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Training is available as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Full Chapter 8 training course<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chapter 8 refresher training<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chapter 8 training provides the knowledge and skills needed to safely manage traffic and set up temporary traffic management when carrying out approved activities on the highway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chapter 8 training is a traffic management qualification that teaches people how to work safely on or near roads and highways. It is based on <strong>Chapter 8 of the UK Traffic Signs Manual<\/strong>, which sets out the rules for temporary traffic management on road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Before You Request Training<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To be eligible for Chapter 8 training, your Town or Parish Council must have a signed Road Warden Agreement in place with Devon County Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you have not yet joined the Road Warden Scheme, please visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/devonhighways\/self-help\/road-warden-scheme\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Road Warden Scheme<\/a> page for information about the scheme, eligibility requirements and how to apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Request Training<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To request Chapter 8 training or refresher training, <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.cloud.microsoft\/Pages\/ResponsePage.aspx?id=gzehjWjLP0S7S5l_d_1b-w-9317U_F9PimWmpTsDDiNUQVpSV0RYS0RXRFVEMUxQUVNWTjlKVkxCQi4u\" rel=\"noopener\">please complete the form<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once your request has been received, a member of the Highways team will contact you to discuss availability and booking arrangements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Important Information<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Training can only be provided to Road Wardens operating under a signed Road Warden Agreement.
