Stand for election and information for candidates

The Committee on Standards in Public Life highlighted the ten principles of public life as:

  • selflessness
  • honesty and integrity
  • objectivity
  • accountability
  • openness
  • personal judgment
  • respect for others
  • duty to uphold the law
  • stewardship
  • leadership

Whilst democratic election gives local councillors (like members of parliament) a special status in public life, it is not easy being a local councillor.

Confidence in the democratic process is so important that the ambition to serve on a council remains an honourable calling and should be recognised as such.
