“Most of the work councillors undertake is in their local communities and not in County Hall at all. The reality is that while there are a number of formal committees to serve on, they are just a small part of ‘the job’.
“As a councillor it’s helpful to have an ability to read the reports, read between the lines and to ask searching questions.”
What would your advice be to someone considering becoming a councillor?
“If you would enjoy bringing people together, seeking ways to speak up for the community, working to help community groups, parish and town councils, and influence the wider range of services delivered by the County Council, then you will likely enjoy being a Devon county councillor.”
