Support from Devon County Council

COVID-19 Prompt Action Fund (currently paused)
Devon County Council has launched the COVID-19 Prompt Action Fund to provide flexible resources to organisations working with communities who are disproportionately impacted by coronavirus and the social and economic consequences of this outbreak. Applications are accepted from voluntary- and community-sector organisations, social enterprises, town and parish councils, charities and businesses.

Financial Hardship Funds
Devon County Council has allocated one million pounds in grant funding to support people who need short-term emergency assistance to afford basic living essentials. The funding is being administered by the District Councils who will provide small grants to people who need help. Contact your District Council or refer to the list of grant schemes

Support from local organisations

Business support

Businesses should visit the Heart of the South West Growth Hub for advice and information on financial support. The Growth Hub is the business advice service for Devon, Plymouth, Torbay and Somerset.

District councils in Devon are distributing the following government grants for businesses:

Discretionary Business Grants
Grants for small and micro businesses in Devon that have property-related costs but have not been eligible for other government grants for businesses affected by the COVID-19 outbreak.

Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Grant
For small businesses that were eligible for Retail Discount on 11 March 2020 and had a rateable value of less than £51,000

Small Business Grant
For small businesses that were eligible for Small Business Rate Relief or Rural Rate Relief on 11 March 2020 and had a rateable value of less than £51,000

Community support

Devon Coronavirus Response and Recovery Fund
Devon Community Foundation has set up the Devon Coronavirus Response and Recovery Fund to raise funds for local charitable groups that are supporting the most vulnerable people affected by the outbreak of coronavirus.

East Devon Coronavirus Community Food Fund
Grants between £500 and £2,500 for projects related to providing food to residents of east Devon who are in food poverty during Covid-19

Exeter COVID-19 Community Action Fund
Will support groups and organisations with a one-off grant of up to £1,000 to support projects for community-led activities.

Grants for health and care workers

COVID-19 Care Workers Crisis Grants
Care Workers are at the frontline of the coronavirus crisis, caring for society’s most vulnerable and most susceptible to the disease. If a care worker needs to self-isolate, they could fall into desperate need. Apply for a grant or donate.

Cavell Nurses Trust
Additional funding for grants designed to help healthcare assistants, nursing and midwifery professionals with their living costs like rent and utility bills has now been made available.

Grants for charities and community organisations

Asda Foundation: COVID-19 Grants
Grants for health-care providers and homeless shelters to purchase toiletries for their residents; and grants for groups that help to provide meals for children during the school holidays

Aviva Community Fund
A crowdfunding initiative with a new funding theme to help cover the running costs of charities looking to adapt or continue their vital services throughout the COVID-19 outbreak

BBC Children in Need: Next Steps
Grants up to £80,000 to support organisations to adapt their services in order to support disadvantaged children during the COVID-19 crisis. Apply by 1 July 2020

Big Society Capital
Support, adjustments to existing funding and a new £25 million Resilience and Recovery Loan Fund to provide social enterprises and charities with emergency loans with no fees or interest for 12 months

Coronavirus Mental Health Response Fund
Grants to help mental health providers to respond to the increase in demand for mental health services as a direct result of the coronavirus pandemic. Registered charities, CICs, Charitable Incorporated Organisations and Companies Limited by Guarantee can apply. FUND PAUSING (FROM 5PM 13 MAY 2020)

COVID-19 Emergency Surplus Food Grant
Funding to support not-for-profit food redistribution organisations that are facing difficulties as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak. Apply by 3 July 2020

COVID-19 Response Grants: voluntary organisations working in the criminal justice system
Grants for voluntary organisations providing support during the coronavirus crisis to people in prison, leaving prison or under licence in the community or serving a community sentence

Domestic Abuse Safe Accommodation: COVID-19 Emergency Support Fund
This fund has re-opened to applications from charities providing safe accommodation for victims of domestic abuse. Apply by 20 July 2020

Edge Foundation: Post COVID-19 Revival Fund
To support the development of projects and initiatives that revive the education sector, including professional and vocational education, and help it to recover from the COVID-19 crisis. Apply by 9 July 2020

Food Charities Grant Fund
Front-line food aid charities can apply for a grant of up to £100,000 to help continue to provide food to vulnerable people affected by COVID-19. Apply by 6 July 2020

Independent Age Grants Fund
Grants of up to £15,000 for smaller charities that provide services to older people in order to support particularly vulnerable clients during the coronavirus pandemic

Morrisons Foundation: COVID-19 Homeless Support Fund
Registered charities working directly with homeless people can apply for grants of up to £10,000 to provide outreach and support for rough sleepers, services in hostels/shelters, and information and advice

National Lottery Community Fund (NLCF)
Emergency funding for charities and voluntary organisations facing acute financial difficulties or providing support for people and communities affected by COVID-19

Rosa: COVID-19 Response Fund
Grants of up to £10,000 for not-for-profit women’s organisations that address the critical needs of marginalised and disadvantaged women

Tesco Bags of Help COVID-19 Communities Fund
A new short-term fund to support local communities: the fund will provide a single payment award of £500 to organisations that are supporting vulnerable groups during the coronavirus crisis.

Grants for individuals and families

District Councils in Devon are providing small emergency grants to people in financial hardship as a result of COVID-19:

BBC Children in Need Emergency Essentials Programme
Emergency funding to provide items or services to meet the basic needs of children and young people in exceptionally difficult circumstances

Fashion & Textile Children’s Trust
Grants to help parents and carers who have worked in the UK fashion or textile industry and whose household income has reduced as a result of the coronavirus outbreak

Hope for the Young: COVID-19 Emergency Fund
Grants up to £250 to support vulnerable young refugees or asylum seekers

Technology support for children and young people
Local authorities, academy trusts and schools can apply for digital devices and internet access for care leavers, children and young people with a social worker and disadvantaged Year 10 pupils.

Grants for businesses

Businesses should visit the Heart of the South West Growth Hub for advice and information on any financial support, including details of the Government schemes for businesses and the self-employed.

District and Borough Councils in Devon are administering the government’s Small Business Grants, Business Rates Relief schemes and Discretionary Business Grants.

Dairy Response Fund
A single payment of up to £10,000 for dairy farmers who have experienced a reduction of 25% or more in the price paid for their milk as a result of coronavirus restrictions. Apply by 14 August 2020

Fisheries Response Fund
Funding to support fishing and aquaculture businesses including grants for projects to assist fishermen to sell their catch in their local communities during the lockdown restrictions

Future Fund
Convertible loans for innovative UK companies that have the potential to grow but are currently affected by COVID-19

Prince’s Trust & NatWest Enterprise Relief Fund
A £5million fund to support young entrepreneurs whose businesses have been affected by the coronavirus outbreak

Sustainable Innovation Fund
Grants up to £175,000 for UK organisations taking part in new research projects focusing on sustainable economic recovery from COVID-19. Apply by 29 July 2020

Zoos Support Fund
Grants up to £100,000 to support the running costs of licensed zoos and aquariums in difficulty as a result of coronavirus

Grants for schools

School funding: exceptional costs associated with COVID-19
To enable all state-funded mainstream, special schools and alternative provision to make claims for additional costs incurred as a result of coronavirus during March to July 2020. Apply by 21 July 2020

COVID Summer Food Fund
Vouchers to support pupils eligible for free school meals over the summer holiday period during the coronavirus outbreak. You must order the voucher at least one week before your school term ends

Grants for the arts, culture and heritage

Art Fund: Response & Reimagine Grants
Funding to support public museums, galleries, libraries and other cultural and heritage centres usually open to the public

Support for Theatre Professionals during Coronavirus
A collection of funds and sources of advice or support for those in the theatre industry. Funds are available from institution specific funders and from those that support the wider industry.

Authors’ Emergency Fund
Professional authors who are resident in the UK or British subjects – including all types of writers, illustrators, literary translators, scriptwriters, poets, journalists and others.
