{"id":73911,"date":"2026-04-07T15:44:00","date_gmt":"2026-04-07T14:44:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/children-families-education\/?page_id=73911"},"modified":"2026-04-22T11:52:33","modified_gmt":"2026-04-22T10:52:33","slug":"education-care-and-health-needs-assessments","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/children-families-education\/send-local-offer\/education-and-learning\/how-will-school-support-my-child\/send-support-in-school\/educational-psychology\/parents\/education-care-and-health-needs-assessments\/","title":{"rendered":"Education, health, and care needs assessments"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For most children, the support identified after a consultation works well to help them make the most of their time in school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For a very few children with significant needs, which persist over time, more joint assessment and planning may be needed, and an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/children-families-education\/send-local-offer\/education-health-and-care-plans\/what-is-an-ehc-needs-assessment\/\">education, health and care (EHC) needs assessment<\/a> is requested from the SEND Operations Team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Educational Psychology Service is commissioned by Devon County Council to contribute to EHC needs assessments. We do this by carrying out an assessment of the child or young people&#8217;s needs, and providing written reports, which are known as &#8216;<strong>psychological advice<\/strong>&#8216;. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This fulfils part of the council&#8217;s statutory (legal) obligation to request educational psychology advice as part of an EHC needs assessment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For most children, the support identified after a consultation works well to help them make the most of their time in school.
