{"id":72055,"date":"2025-10-17T15:29:33","date_gmt":"2025-10-17T14:29:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/children-families-education\/?page_id=72055"},"modified":"2025-10-17T15:35:33","modified_gmt":"2025-10-17T14:35:33","slug":"the-support-you-should-expect-at-post-16","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/children-families-education\/send-local-offer\/preparing-for-adult-life-ages-14-25-years\/education-and-employment\/the-support-you-should-expect-at-post-16\/","title":{"rendered":"The support you should expect at post-16"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Chapter 7 (page 111) of <a href=\"https:\/\/assets.publishing.service.gov.uk\/media\/5a7dcb85ed915d2ac884d995\/SEND_Code_of_Practice_January_2015.pdf\" rel=\"noopener\">the SEND Code of Practice<\/a> explains and provides guidance on the statutory duties on further education colleges, sixth form colleges and other types of post-16 education providers to identify, assess and provide support for young people with SEND.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The statutory duties are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The duty to co-operate with the local authority on arrangements for children and young people with SEND.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The duty to admit a young person if the institution is named in an Education Health and Care (EHC) plan.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The duty to have regard to the Code of Practice.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The duty to use their best endeavours to secure the special educational provision that the young person needs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In Devon, our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/support-schools-settings\/ordinarily-available-inclusive-provision\/\">Ordinarily Available Inclusive Provision<\/a> describes the inclusive provision and practice that all Devon schools including post-16 settings should be able to provide for all children and young people including those with SEND.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There&#8217;s also more information here about the specific <a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/children-families-education\/send-local-offer\/education-and-learning\/how-will-school-support-my-child\/send-support-in-school\/\">SEND support that should be available in schools<\/a>.
