These can include simple changes to working practices, or maybe special equipment, that can help you with your work. It&#8217;s important you talk to your employer about any reasonable adjustments you think would help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/children-families-education\/send-local-offer\/preparing-for-adult-life-ages-14-25-years\/education-and-employment\/preparing-for-employment\/the-equality-act-2010\/\">The Equality Act 2010<\/a> is a law that exists to protect disabled people from discrimination when they use services or are in education or employment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Access to Work<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/access-to-work\" rel=\"noopener\">Access to Work<\/a> can help you get or stay in work if you have a physical or mental health condition or disability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The support you get will depend on your needs. Through Access to Work, you can apply for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a grant to help pay for practical support with your work<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>support with managing your mental health at work<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>money to pay for communication support at job interviews<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/easy-read-get-help-at-work-if-youre-disabled-or-have-a-health-condition-access-to-work\" rel=\"noopener\">Access to Work guides in easy read format<\/a> explain what Access to Work is and how you can apply for it. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/access-to-work-factsheet\" rel=\"noopener\">Access to Work factsheets<\/a> are also available on the government website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Supported employment<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you need more help than can be provided by an employer making reasonable adjustments a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/children-families-education\/send-local-offer\/preparing-for-adult-life-ages-14-25-years\/education-and-employment\/preparing-for-employment\/supported-employment\/\">supported employment<\/a> scheme may be right for you. These offer high-quality, personalised support for people with disabilities, disadvantages, or both which helps them to find, access and stay in employment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Flexible working<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Flexible working could be a great option for you if you have a disability or health condition. Many employers offer flexible working which includes job sharing and part time work so you can still be working and earning in a way that works for you. They may also offer the opportunity to work from home or in a different location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Working for yourself<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Being employed doesn&#8217;t always mean working for someone else. There is also the option to start your own business and be self-employed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heartofswgrowthhub.co.uk\/start-grow-business\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Heart of the South West Growth Hub<\/a> contains information about starting your business and growing it.
