You can speak with your child\u2019s class teacher, form tutor, SENCO or other key member of staff. We know that when parent carers, children and schools work together, there are likely to be better outcomes for the child.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Working in partnership with your child&#8217;s school<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Working in partnership with your child and your child\u2019s school, helps to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>have a shared understanding of your child\u2019s strengths and needs, for example, what they are good at and what they might find difficult<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>identify what the barriers are to your child going to school<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>generate creative ideas and suggestions for what might support your child<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>support one another if things become difficult<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>use the same approach<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>feel valued and respected, and have your views listened to.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stepped support plans<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You can develop a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/children-families-education\/education\/attendance-and-inclusion\/ebsa\/regularly-misses-school\/how-you-can-help-your-child\/creating-a-stepped-support-plan\/\">stepped support plan<\/a> to support your child\u2019s attendance which:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>focuses on your child\u2019s views and voice<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>considers ways to support them to feel accepted, respected and included<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>provides specific, measurable targets for your child to allow for small steps of progress to be celebrated<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>has clear actions for the school, you and your child (depending on their age) to ensure these targets are met<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>is reviewed regularly to see how things are going, what is working and any changes that need to be made.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Some useful resources<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Young Minds have created a useful <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youngminds.org.uk\/parent\/parents-a-z-mental-health-guide\/school-anxiety-and-refusal\/#Makingchangesatschool\" rel=\"noopener\">guide for parents: school anxiety and refusal<\/a>, with helpful suggestions about talking to you child\u2019s school if you have concerns about their attendance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When working together your child\u2019s school, it will be helpful to keep a record of your child\u2019s worries about school and any days they have been unable to attend. This will help to develop a shared understanding of the reasons for your child\u2019s attendance difficulties and lead to better support.
