SEND support is sometimes categorised into &#8216;tiers&#8217; or &#8216;levels&#8217; &#8211; you may hear these called <strong>universal<\/strong>, <strong>targeted<\/strong>, or <strong>specialist<\/strong> support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-rank-math-toc-block\" id=\"rank-math-toc\"><h2>Types of support<\/h2><nav><ul><li class=\"\"><a href=\"#help-for-all-children-and-young-people-universal\">Help for all children and young people (universal)<\/a><\/li><li class=\"\"><a href=\"#support-for-children-and-young-people-who-need-a-bit-more-help-targeted\">Support for children and young people who need a bit more help (targeted)<\/a><\/li><li class=\"\"><a href=\"#support-for-children-and-young-people-who-need-specific-help-specialist\">Support for children and young people who need specific help (specialist)<\/a><\/li><li class=\"\"><a href=\"#family-support-in-devon\">Family support in Devon<\/a><\/li><li class=\"\"><a href=\"#financial-support\">Financial support<\/a><\/li><\/ul><\/nav><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"help-for-all-children-and-young-people-universal\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Help for all children and young people (universal)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the support available to all children and young people and their families, regardless of whether they have any support needs, or what these might be. Most families will get the support they need by accessing universal services. Any professional who knows your family, for example, a health visitor, teacher, school nurse, or GP can help you explore the universal services available in your local area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These may include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Health services<\/strong> &#8211; information about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/children-families-education\/child-family-support\/health\/\">health services for everyone<\/a> can be found in our Health advice section.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Support in the early years<\/strong> &#8211; information about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/children-families-education\/send-local-offer\/early-years\/\">support for all children under five<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Support at school<\/strong> &#8211; find out what <a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/children-families-education\/send-local-offer\/education-and-learning\/how-will-school-support-my-child\/\">support all children can expect in schools<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Support for families<\/strong> &#8211; support for all families is available from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/children-families-education\/child-family-support\/family-support\/family-hubs\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"23028\">family hubs<\/a>. It may be that you want to prevent a problem, or change things for your family before things become more serious. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Support is available to families from pre-birth to adolescence, and can be for all sorts of issues, including many affecting families with a child or young person with SEND. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Problems that may be helped through early help support include: parenting; physical or mental health; a disability or special needs; school attendance or emotional wellbeing amongst others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can ask for an early help assessment yourself, or someone your family is already in contact with (such as a teacher or someone at your child\u2019s nursery, a health visitor, your GP or a support worker) may suggest one for you.
