Four Cornerstones"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In 2011, <a href=\"https:\/\/genuinepartnerships.co.uk\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Genuine Partnerships<\/a> (a not-for-profit community interest company from Rotherham made up of practitioners, parent carers and young people working together as equal partners)&nbsp;developed <strong>&#8216;The Four Cornerstones&#8217;<\/strong> based on research involving children and young people with SEND and their families.\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It has been adopted nationally and Genuine Partnerships works with <a href=\"https:\/\/contact.org.uk\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Contact<\/a> (a charity for families with disabled children) to deliver training in local areas. \u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Devon is adopting this tried and tested approach to embed a new culture which focuses on rebuilding trust and positive relationships.\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Four Cornerstones will underpin Devon\u2019s SEND Strategy and will be used to evaluate the progress in changing the culture.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through this strategy we want to improve the way that we:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/children-families-education\/send-local-offer\/working-together\/devon-local-area-special-educational-needs-and-disabilities-send-strategy-2024-to-2027\/the-four-cornerstones\/#welcome\">welcome and care<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/children-families-education\/send-local-offer\/working-together\/devon-local-area-special-educational-needs-and-disabilities-send-strategy-2024-to-2027\/the-four-cornerstones\/#value\">value and include<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/children-families-education\/send-local-offer\/working-together\/devon-local-area-special-educational-needs-and-disabilities-send-strategy-2024-to-2027\/the-four-cornerstones\/#communicate\">communicate<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/children-families-education\/send-local-offer\/working-together\/devon-local-area-special-educational-needs-and-disabilities-send-strategy-2024-to-2027\/the-four-cornerstones\/#partnership\">work secure environment or context\u200b<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>nurturing confidence, wellbeing and self-esteem\u200b<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>working together with you to build a supportive community\u200b<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>making sure your voice is heard and valued\u200b<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>responding with sensitivity\u200b<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>communicating expectations clearly\u200b<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>emphasising strengths and achievements\u200b<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"value\"><strong>Value and include by:<\/strong>\u200b<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>identifying needs early&nbsp;and welcoming involvement at every stage\u200b<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>having a \u2018can do\u2019 approach\u200b<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>making sure all practitioners have the right skills and understanding\u200b<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>sharing information about strengths and needs sensitively\u200b<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>being creative and flexible to respond in the best way to individual strengths, needs and changes\u200b<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>involving all relevant partners in decision-making processes \u200b<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>encouraging all partners to contribute to the development of our values, systems and policies\u200b<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"communicate\"><strong>Communicate by:<\/strong>\u200b<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>asking for your views and involvement\u200b<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>being available when people need to talk and making time to listen\u200b<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>listening calmly and respectfully\u200b<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>responding promptly and following up\u200b<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>reviewing regularly\u200b<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>providing all the information needed in a timely way, in a form that will be understood\u200b<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>striving to use positive and constructive language\u200b<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"partnership\"><strong>Work in partnership by:<\/strong>\u200b<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>encouraging participation\u200b<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>valuing your contributions as an equal partner\u200b<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>working together to develop plans, set targets and create and deliver specific programmes\u200b<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>involving you in decisions about organisational changes and improvement<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator Council has published the findings of transformative project to reshape the county\u2019s approach to supporting children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a
