{"id":16152,"date":"2023-09-22T12:20:55","date_gmt":"2023-09-22T11:20:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/educationandfamilies\/?page_id=16152"},"modified":"2023-09-22T12:20:55","modified_gmt":"2023-09-22T11:20:55","slug":"health-and-wellbeing","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/children-families-education\/children-and-young-peoples-plan-2019-2023\/health-and-wellbeing\/","title":{"rendered":"Health and wellbeing"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>All children and young people deserve to be <strong>healthy and happy.<\/strong> Good physical and emotional health plays an important part in helping them to <strong>live a fulfilled life.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For most children, the <b>family and community <\/b>ensure their health and wellbeing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Families need access to good <b>information and advice<\/b>, and our Antenatal, Maternity, Public Health Nursing Services and Children\u2019s Centres will all work together to ensure that <b>no infant, child or family slips through the net<\/b>, with support tailored to their needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We will continue to improve care for children with <b>long-term conditions<\/b> such as asthma and diabetes, and focus on <b>prevention<\/b> to tackle issues like child obesity and tooth decay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Our priorities to 2023 are:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Emotional wellbeing, mental health and self-harm<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Supporting the emotional wellbeing and mental health of children and young people with their families continues to be a priority.&nbsp; We will continue to embed preventative strategies and support across schools, public health nursing and wider support services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information, please refer to our CAMHS Transformation Plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Early support for autism<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We will continue to work together to develop our local offer to autistic children by working with parents and children to make sure we make an impact and improve life chances. We will:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Not wait for a diagnosis\u00a0before giving support to children who display behaviours linked to autism<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support the emotional health and wellbeing of children, young people and their families\u00a0who may be living with autism<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide\u00a0more self-help information\u00a0for parents<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information please see our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.devonhealthandwellbeing.org.uk\/strategies\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Community Health and Wellbeing Service Strategy<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Improving speech and language services<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Speech, language and communication needs must not prevent a child in Devon achieving in school and will be better understood and responded to by all professionals and practitioners.
