Their entitlement may depend on whether they are still in education, job seeking or claiming benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parents\u2019 and carers\u2019 benefits and tax credits will depend not only on the student or employment status of the young person but also on what benefits the young person is claiming. Benefits and tax credits are complex. You can get advice from Citizens Advice&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/wearecitizensadvice.org.uk\/where-can-i-get-support-with-the-cost-of-living-crisis-3e2b9d257460\" rel=\"noopener\">online<\/a>, over the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.citizensadvice.org.uk\/about-us\/contact-us\/\" rel=\"noopener\">phone<\/a>, or by contacting your&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cabdevon.org.uk\/advice\/\" rel=\"noopener\">local Citizens Advice office<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Money management for people with disabilities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dosh.org\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Dosh<\/a> is a financial advocacy service that supports people with a learning disability to be more independent and have more control over their finances. Dosh also provides some useful <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dosh.org\/resources\/\" rel=\"noopener\">resources<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk\/en\" rel=\"noopener\">The Money Advice Service<\/a> contains a whole range of information about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk\/en\/articles\/how-to-sort-out-your-money-if-you-become-ill-or-disabled\" rel=\"noopener\">if you become ill or disabled<\/a> as well as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk\/en\/articles\/money-saving-tips-and-discounts-for-disabled-people\" rel=\"noopener\">Money saving tips and discounts for disabled people<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scope.org.uk\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Scope<\/a> also provide information and advice about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scope.org.uk\/support\/disabled-people\/money\/managing-money\" rel=\"noopener\">managing money<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You might also want to look at this easy read booklet called&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk\/20120215114506\/http:\/\/www.justice.gov.uk\/downloads\/guidance\/protecting-the-vulnerable\/mca\/managing-money-easy-read-guide.pdf\" rel=\"noopener\">\u2018Help looking after your money\u2019<\/a>&nbsp;and visit the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk\/en\/categories\/tools-and-calculators\" rel=\"noopener\">Money Advice Service<\/a>&nbsp;budgeting and managing money webpages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mental health and money issues<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Rethink Mental Illness provides support and information for people living with mental health conditions. Visit their website&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rethink.org\/\" rel=\"noopener\">www.rethink.org<\/a>&nbsp;(which has a section on mental health and money issues).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MIND also provide information on<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mind.org.uk\/information-support\/tips-for-everyday-living\/money-and-mental-health\/\" rel=\"noopener\">&nbsp;money and mental health<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Money issues for people with a learning disability<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Mencap is a national charity for people with a learning disability. Visit their website&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mencap.org.uk\/\" rel=\"noopener\">www.mencap.org.uk<\/a>&nbsp;(which includes information about money issues for people with a learning disability and their families) or call them on 0808 808 1111.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cost of living support<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For help, advice and support with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/cost-of-living\/\">cost of living<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Major adaptations to your home<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>These could include a stair lift, wide doorway, adapting bathrooms or kitchens. The work may be funded through a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/disabled-facilities-grants\/overview\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Disabled Facilities Grant<\/a>&nbsp;administered through your local <a title=\"District Councils\" href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/neighbouring-authorities\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">district council<\/a>, or provided on the recommendation of an occupational therapist (OT).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/adaptmyhome.org.uk\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Adapt My Home website<\/a>&nbsp;allows you to check how well your home supports your needs, and whether you could&nbsp;benefit&nbsp;from some adaptations to help you stay safe and independent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">VAT exemption<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are registered as disabled, you will be exempt from paying VAT on works done to adapt your home or equipment purchased specifically to meet your disability needs.
