{"id":46910,"date":"2025-11-07T14:17:58","date_gmt":"2025-11-07T14:17:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/adult-social-care\/?page_id=46910"},"modified":"2025-11-07T14:17:58","modified_gmt":"2025-11-07T14:17:58","slug":"lga-peer-challenge-2023","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/adult-social-care\/devon-social-care\/adult-social-care-assurance\/lga-peer-challenge-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"LGA Peer Challenge 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Devon County Council has commissioned from the Local Government Association a Peer Challenge of Adult Social Care:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.local.gov.uk\/our-support\/council-assurance-and-peer-support\/principles-peer-challenge\" rel=\"noopener\">Principles of Peer Challenge<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.local.gov.uk\/our-support\/council-assurance-and-peer-support\/principles-peer-challenge\/peer-challenge-process\" rel=\"noopener\">The Peer Challenge process<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.local.gov.uk\/our-support\/council-assurance-and-peer-support\/peer-challenges-we-offer\/adult-social-care-peer\" rel=\"noopener\">Adult Social Care Peer Challenge<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We have asked them to use the Care Quality Commission Assurance Framework:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cqc.org.uk\/news\/our-approach-assessing-local-authorities\" rel=\"noopener\">The CQC approach to assessing local authorities<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cqc.org.uk\/sites\/default\/files\/2023-04\/20230424_interim_guidance_for_local_authority_assessments.pdf\" rel=\"noopener\">The CQC interim guidance for assessing local authorities<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cqc.org.uk\/guidance-providers\/local-authorities\/assessment-framework-local-authority-assurance\" rel=\"noopener\">The CQC interim assessment framework<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We have also asked them to pay particular attention to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Practice Quality Assurance in care management and safeguarding<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Front door, prevention, and early intervention<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Delivery of our market sustainability plan<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This is not an inspection but an opportunity for a team of people who understand the pressures of running a local authority to review the Council\u2019s delivery of its adult social care duties in a challenging but supportive way. It includes an assessment of current achievements and provides recommendations of how further improvements can be made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Peer Challenge will give us constructive feedback on the delivery of our statutory duties defined by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legislation.gov.uk\/ukpga\/2014\/23\/enacted\" rel=\"noopener\">Care Act (2014).<\/a> This will inform our improvement plan, help us refine our self-assessment, and highlight any evidence gaps.
