If you are eligible for equipment from social care you can choose to be given the equipment or have a direct payment to buy the equipment yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How much will the direct payment be?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You will be offered a direct payment equivalent to the price of the equipment that you would have been given from Devon County Council or the NHS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Can I buy anything with the direct payment?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The direct payment can be used to buy new or second-hand equipment or to lease equipment, as long as it is assessed as suitable for your needs by your direct payment prescriber.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To have the direct payment you must:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>use the direct payment only for equipment that will meet your assessed need<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>be responsible for your own health and safety, and that of people employed by you or caring for you when using the equipment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>read the manufacturer&#8217;s instructions for safe use<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ensure all statutory checks and maintenance are done to comply with the requirements of health and safety legislation, such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hse.gov.uk\/work-equipment-machinery\/puwer.htm\" rel=\"noopener\">Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations<\/a>&nbsp;or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hse.gov.uk\/work-equipment-machinery\/loler.htm\" rel=\"noopener\">Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>insure the equipment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>repay any underspend if the equipment costs less than the value of the direct payment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>offer DCC or NHS care services first refusal on the equipment when it is no longer required<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The direct payment prescriber must:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>check that your choice of equipment will meet your assessed need, taking into account changing needs if you have a fluctuating or degenerative condition<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>confirm that the money has been spent appropriately<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>review the appropriate installation and use of the equipment as soon as possible after it\u2019s delivered<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>give you the results of any health and safety assessments and moving and handling plans, done as part of your assessment of need<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>advise you on the health and safety aspects of using any prescribed equipment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Direct payments for equipment can\u2019t be offered to people in care homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can read our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/adult-social-care\/document\/direct-payments-scheme-policy-for-the-use-of-direct-payments-for-devon-independent-living-integrated-service-dilis-equipment-and-adaptations\/\">Direct Payments for Equipment and Adaptations Policy here<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Find out more about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/adult-social-care\/adults\/assistive-technologies\/\">technology enabled care and support<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For some people your assessment will show that your needs can be met with a piece of equipment.
