{"id":34036,"date":"2024-02-22T14:43:18","date_gmt":"2024-02-22T14:43:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/adult-social-care\/?page_id=34036"},"modified":"2025-09-01T15:17:32","modified_gmt":"2025-09-01T14:17:32","slug":"cqc-inspection","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/adult-social-care\/devon-social-care\/adult-social-care-assurance\/cqc-inspection\/","title":{"rendered":"CQC inspection preparation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legislation.gov.uk\/ukpga\/2022\/31\/contents\/enacted\" rel=\"noopener\">Health and Care Act (2022)<\/a> empowered the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cqc.org.uk\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Care Quality Commission<\/a> (CQC) to assess how well local authorities meet their duties under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legislation.gov.uk\/ukpga\/2014\/23\/part\/1\" rel=\"noopener\">Part 1 of the Care Act (2014)<\/a> using their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cqc.org.uk\/assessment\" rel=\"noopener\">single assessment framework<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/\">Devon County Council<\/a>\u00a0has consistently produced an annual self-assessment of its delivery of adult social care services and the outcomes they achieve for people in the form of an annual report including in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/adult-social-care\/document\/annual-report-for-adult-social-care-in-devon-for-2021\/\">2021<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/democracy.devon.gov.uk\/mgConvert2PDF.aspx?ID=44402\" rel=\"noopener\">2022<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/democracy.devon.gov.uk\/ieListDocuments.aspx?CId=429&amp;MId=4778&amp;Ver=4\" rel=\"noopener\">2023<\/a> with the 2024 report published at the end of the term of the previous Council in the form of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/adult-social-care\/devon-social-care\/adult-social-care-assurance\/our-guide-to-adult-social-care-in-devon\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"34040\">our guide to adult social care in Devon 2024<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/adult-social-care\/devon-social-care\/adult-social-care-assurance\/our-self-assessment-of-adult-social-care-in-devon\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"34038\">self-assessment of adult social care in Devon 2024<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We have also periodically invited the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.local.gov.uk\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Local Government Association<\/a> (LGA) to undertake a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.local.gov.uk\/our-support\/council-assurance-and-peer-support\/peer-challenges-we-offer\/adult-social-care-peer\" rel=\"noopener\">peer review<\/a> of adult social care in Devon (most recently in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/lga-peer-challenge\/\">2023<\/a>) publishing the outcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We welcome the additional assurance and transparency that CQC will give people in Devon and members of the Council and the insights the process will give to inform our continuous improvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CQC has published guidance on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cqc.org.uk\/local-systems\/local-authorities\" rel=\"noopener\">local authority assessments<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"dcc-infographic-block\" id=\"block_acf-block-68b5aaf988940\"><img decoding=\"async\" tabindex=\"-1\" id=\"longdesc-return-42387\" longdesc=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/adult-social-care?longdesc=42387&#038;referrer=34036\" aria-describedby=\"longdesc-link-wp-image-42387\" width=\"1015\" height=\"468\" src=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/adult-social-care\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/157\/2025\/02\/image.png\" class=\"attachment-full size-full wp-image-42387\" alt=\"An infographic depicting the process for the assessment of local authority adult social care functions in five phases.\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/adult-social-care\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/157\/2025\/02\/image.png 1015w, https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/adult-social-care\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/157\/2025\/02\/image-300x138.png 300w, https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/adult-social-care\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/157\/2025\/02\/image-800x369.png 800w, https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/adult-social-care\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/157\/2025\/02\/image-768x354.png 768w, https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/adult-social-care\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/157\/2025\/02\/image-640x295.png 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1015px) 100vw, 1015px\" longdesc=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/adult-social-care?longdesc=42387&amp;referrer=34036\" id=\"longdesc-return-42387\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The LGA offers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.local.gov.uk\/our-support\/partners-care-and-health\/cqcs-new-assurance-framework\" rel=\"noopener\">guidance and support<\/a> to local authorities subject to the CQC&#8217;s new assurance framework. In January 2024, we engaged them through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.local.gov.uk\/our-support\/partners-care-and-health\" rel=\"noopener\">Partners in Care and Health<\/a> to support our staff and system leaders in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.local.gov.uk\/our-support\/partners-care-and-health\/cqcs-new-assurance-framework\" rel=\"noopener\">preparing for CQC assurance<\/a> including interviews and focus groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We work with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adass.org.uk\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Association of Directors of Adult Social Services<\/a> (ADASS) locally and nationally on sector-led improvement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Health and Care Act (2022) empowered the Care Quality Commission (CQC) to assess how well local authorities meet their duties under Part 1 of the Care Act (2014) using their single assessment framework.
