Traffic Census – New Road, Teignmouth

I would like the details of the traffic census you undertook (with a radar device) last December for about a week and the written comments given by the police.

The outcome was a mean speed of 27 and an 85% probability of 32.

The traffic flow and traffic speeds were monitored for 24hrs a day over a 7 day period in December 2018 in New Road, east of Moor Close. The average flow was 4,798 vehicles per day, the mean speed was 27mph and the 85th percentile speed was 32mph.The 85th percentile speed is a widely used traffic statistical metric which provides an accurate estimation of the speed at which most vehicles are travelling at the survey location. It can be defined as, “the speed at or below which 85 percent of all vehicles are observed to travel under free-flowing conditions past a monitored point”. It is used by traffic engineers for a number of reasons, including the setting of speed limits.

There were no written comments from the Police, therefore we do not hold that information.
