“I am led to believe that there have previously been periodic speed surveys along New Road, Teignmouth with the last one being November 2018.
I would like to request access to the results of past and current speed reviews and also information about where along New Road the speed surveys were placed.”
Devon County Council (DCC) has undertaken four speed surveys in New Road, at three different locations, between Nov 2008 and Dec 2018. Results are shown in the table below.
All surveys were undertaken for 24 hours per day, for 7 days.
|Location||Date||Average number of vehicles recorded per day||85th percentile speed (mph)*||Mean speed (mph)|
|Between Ferndale Rd and Maudlin Drive (green dot on map**)||November 2008||4,650||36.3||29.0|
|Between Ferndale Rd and Maudlin Drive (green dot on map**)||September 2010||4,937||37.0||29.6|
|West of St Michaels Road (black dot on map**)||January 2011||3,625||34.6||29.7|
|East of Moor Close (black dot on map**)||December 2018||4,798||32.0||27.0|
*The 85th percentile speed is a widely used traffic statistical metric which provides an accurate estimation of the speed at which most vehicles are travelling at the survey location. It can be defined as, “the speed at or below which 85 percent of all vehicles are observed to travel under free-flowing conditions past a monitored point”. It is used by traffic engineers for a number of reasons, including the setting of speed limits.
