155 adult social workers and 24 adult agency workers (179 total).

2. How many children social workers are at your Council? What is the split between employed and agency staffed?

265 children’s social workers and 64 children’s agency workers (329 total).

3. How many transition team social workers are at your Council? What is the split between employed and agency staffed?  

The Council has had 9 Transition Social Workers in children’s social care between January 2018 and December 2019.  All Children’s transition social workers are employed.

The Council does not operate a scheme for adult transition social workers.

4. What was your training budget in 2017/2018 for adult social workers?

There is no specific training budget allocated to adult social workers. The overall adults training budget is £657,000, but this covers all adult social care training and is not restricted to social workers.

6. What was your training budget in 2017/2018 for transition team social workers?

In Devon’s children’s social care, transition social workers are Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered social workers who have been working in a different field of social work or may have had some time away from social work but have retained their HCPC registration. The Transition Programme lasts for 6 months and offers additional support, mentoring and reduced caseload building to a full caseload over the period of 6 months. No specific budget is allocated to the training of transition social workers.

The Council does not operate a scheme for adult transition social workers.

No training aimed specifically at transition social workers took place in children’s services in 2017/18. The Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) development programme is available to transition social workers as are all other internal and external training courses.

In addition, Mentoring is provided by a Social Work Development Officer for the first six months of employment.
