SEN Placements after Exclusion – 2017 to date

1.“How many children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) – including both children on SEN support and students with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) – at (i) primary and (ii) secondary school level have not been placed in another mainstream or specialist school within 4 months of a permanent exclusion.

In your response, please make clear separately how many children were on an EHCP and how many were on SEN support.  Please report the figures separately for the following academic years – 2017/18, 2018/19 and 2019/20 (to date):-

The below figures total the number of children who, 4 months after exclusion, were not yet placed in a mainstream school or specialist school or provided with an education other than at school by the local authority:-

*These figures are exempt from disclosure under Section 40(2) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 – ‘Personal Information’.  This is because release of these figures could lead to the identification of the individual(s) concerned which would breach the principles of the Data Protection Act 2018 and the General Data Protection Regulation.

2. Of the total number of primary and secondary school children who were permanently excluded, how many of these children later went on to secure an EHC plan after their permanent exclusion.

Please make clear in your response how many of these children had previously been on SEN support. Please report the figures for the following years – 2017/18, 2018/19 and 2019/20 (to date)”:-
