School absence fines due to COVID-19

1. How many fines for unauthorised school absences have been handed out this term until 14th October due to parents keeping children out of school over Covid-19 fears?

None. Unauthorised holidays and persistent absence are the criteria for school absence penalty notices and none have been issued this term up to October 14th. The Education Welfare Service is involved to assist Schools and families in supporting their children to return, whilst providing assistance to reassure families children are as safe as they can be to return to school in line with the law, under the Education Act 1996. 16 compared to 407 for September to October 2019
