Industrial action taken by staff – 2019 to date

1. The number of incidents of industrial action taken by employees of the Council, in days, during the year 2020 to date, 2019 and as many years for which records are available.
2. The number of man-hours lost to industrial action by employees of the Council during the year 2020 to date, 2019 and as many years for which records are available.

The Council record the number of hours of industrial action, rather than the number of days. We can calculate the number of days full-time staff took action, but this is more difficult for part-timers, especially for those who work variable length days.

Please see below a table providing the number of industrial action deductions that were made each year and the number of hours lost. From these figures we have calculated, how many days would have been lost if all the hours were scheduled on full days (7.4 hrs/day or 6.5 hrs/day for teachers), however, the reality is that some of these hours will have been taken on different length days.

All figures are rounded to the nearest whole number

* These figures include Devon maintained and voluntary controlled schools because their staff are ‘employees of the Council’. Academy, voluntary aided and trust school staff are not employed by the Council so have not been included in these figures.

** Each deduction may cover one or more days.
