Highways compensation claims

I would like to make a request under the Freedom of Information Act.

For the last three financial years (2015/16, 2016/17 and 2017/18) please provide a list of all successful compensation claims (i.e. that resulted in compensation being paid out) against your authority for poor road conditions.

In this list, please include:

a) the road(s) concerned and the ward(s) in which it was located
b) the amount in compensation paid out, including any legal fees from those bringing claims that the council paid for
c) the financial year

Full details of individual compensation claims, including the location of the incident, and amount of the compensation claim, could potentially identify the claimant and, having identified the claimant, include a disclosure of sensitive personal date with regard to the claim which they have brought concerning a road traffic accident.

A disclosure of sensitive personal data would be unfair to the claimant and, therefore a breach of the first data protection principle. This information is therefore exempt from disclosure pursuant to s.40(2) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

By way of advice and assistance, we can confirm the following overall total number of successful claims for the following years:

2015: 86
2016: 95
2017: 71

and the total amounts paid for the following years:

2015: £23,770
2016: £24,084
2017: £20,228
