Devon County Council Flexible Retirement Figures

Freedom of Information Act 2000

Information Request 11026676

How widely Devon County Councils flexible retirement policy has been used within Children’s Social Care?

Devon County Council (DCC) retirement policy applies to all employees of the Council, who are current members of the Local Government Pension Scheme, and aged 55 or over.

If the employer gives consent, the employee will be able to reduce working hours and/or grade, and release pension benefits if the policy criteria are met, without leaving employment. It is available for all employee from all sectors to make an application for flexible retirement.

Please state the number of employees or position, that have been allowed to take flexible retirement under DCC flexible retirement policy over the past 10 years

Prior to 2017, DCC used to keep the flexible retirement request forms on files.

To comply with this part of the request wholly would require a file check of all the employees files. This would exceed the appropriate costs limit under section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000. This is currently £450 or 18 hours of officer time. For this reason we believe that Section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act applies (cost of compliance exceeds the appropriate limits).

However, we can provide the figures from 2017 to present, when DCC began recording Flexible Retirement Figures 2017 Onwards
