Dawlish Rail disaster 2014

I am trying to ascertain the consequences the disaster had to local businesses, local residents and the local economy.  Provide any reports or data that would help analyse this and perhaps any statistics that emerged due to the event.

Devon Maritime Forum Winter Storms 13/14 Summary Report

This summarises some of the key impacts of the Dawlish event, but relies on more detailed work undertaken by others (e.g. on the economic impacts).

Devon County Council Flood Investigation Report – Devon Winter Floods 23rd December 2013 – 14th February 2014 – Final Report

Whilst this report provides minimal information on the implications of the collapse of the railway at Dawlish, it does help to put this in the context of the exceptional sequence of storm and flood events that hit the South West during this winter period in very late 2013 / early 2014 and culminated with the storm event on 14th February.  This is available on our Flood Risk Management web pages on the Devon County Council web site. (scroll down to ‘Flood Investigations’ and you will see the link to this report).

Peninsula Rail Task Force 20 year plan report Devon County Council jointly commissioned the Peninsula Rail Task Force report with Cornwall Council, Plymouth City Council, Torbay Council and Somerset County Council

On Track the 20 year plan interim report which provides some facts and figures and references in relation to Dawlish and impacts.

More detail on the effects on local residents may be available via Teignbridge District Council, which led on the re-housing of directly affected residents.  It would also be worthwhile contacting Dawlish Town Council, who coordinated a public appeal at the time to provide support for those affected in the local community.
