Whilst we intend that this service should be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, it is possible that on occasion it may be unavailable for very short time periods to permit maintenance or other development activity to take place.
We have set our Internet service standard at 98% availability.
We have published our availability and performance reports online. We use the website monitoring, alerting and reporting service provided by Axzona to ensure our website is performing satisfactorily.
Website usage and visitor statistics
We record and publish our usage and visitors statistics - the type of information we measure is:
- how many different users access the Devon County Council website
- how many times the site is visited
- how many pages are looked at
Page views are related to content and user behaviour. For example, if a user requests an HTML page that has three graphics files, the web server might make a log entry for the three graphics files, the HTML page, and perhaps add some lines for overhead and each is recorded as a hit. However, only one collective page view is recorded. Thus page views are more reliable than hits as a form of measurement.
"It is not acceptable or useful to refer to hits. By counting hits, one is simply totting up all the individual files - including graphic files - that the visitor requests." -- Office of the e-Envoy
Unique visitors are individuals who visited the site during the report period (calendar month). If someone visits more than once, they are counted only the first time they visit
