Sustainable School Travel & School Travel Plans

It is the vision of Devon County Council that every child should be able to travel to school in a healthy, sustainable and safe way.  By working together and developing an achievable Travel Plan for your school we can help to achieve this.  Since 2000, over 99% of schools in Devon have developed School Travel Plans and benefited from the grants available.  Schools throughout Devon have developed Travel Plans, to improve children's health and the school environment.    This is not so for many children and travelling to school by car has nearly doubled since 1985.  Children are getting less exercise and congestion outside schools is a serious problem.

Devon is a fantastic place to be active and we hope that all our schools will welcome this local initiative to encourage young people of all abilities to find a sport or activity that they really enjoy. If your school does anything that you would like publicity for please do let us know!
