Press Releases
From Janet Kipling, Exeter 383654, December 15, 2006
YOUNG people from Devon County Council Youth Service's 100 Club in Countess Wear will be serving up a Christmas feast for local pensioners this Sunday.
Six youngsters will be serving a Christmas turkey dinner prepared by celebrity chef Paul da Costa Greaves.
Paul, who is the chef at The Galley Restaurant in Topsham, has been working with youngsters at the 100 Club since September. He has been holding cookery classes with young people from Exeter schools all of whom belong to the 'Learn to Work inclusion group' at the 100 club.
Paul will be preparing the food at his restaurant, including his own home-made Christmas pudding, and turkey with all the trimmings.
The food will then be taken to the 100 Club in Countess Wear to be served up by the young people and enjoyed by 12 pensioners from the local area.
Born in 1973 in Liverpool, Paul Da Costa Greaves has forged a reputation for inventive cookery and an influence from Zen Buddhism's principals of yin and yang and 'sanuk' which means 'to enjoy'. He prefers regional, seasonal and organic fresh local produce. His national appearances include live demonstrations to an audience seen recently in association with ITV1, promotions for Somerfield, Skills for Chefs, yearly appearances at the Good Food Show in Birmingham and London, and a current project working with UKfood on a lifestyle balance program.
Executive Member for Children's Services, Councillor John Smith, said: "We are very grateful to Paul for establishing such a strong link with the young people from the 100 Club and for developing their skills and confidence in the kitchen.
"These young people are a shining example of those that are involved in their communities and respect the older people that live amongst them. They have given up their Sunday to give these people a treat, for which they should be congratulated."
The Christmas dinner will be held at the 100 Club, Countess Wear this Sunday 17 December. Photographers and reporters are welcome to attend at 1.15pm.
