Museums
The Museum Association's official definition states: "Museums enable people to explore collections for inspiration, learning and enjoyment. They are institutions that collect, safeguard and make accesible artefacts and specimens, which they hold in trust for society."
There are over 70 museums throughout Devon. This total is the highest number of museums in one county in the South West Region.
Devon County Council is keen to support the core functions of museums by actively supporting and working in partnership with local authorities, districts and those organisations within the independent sector.
