Honouring this year's Community Transport Heroes
Every year, Devon County Council honours the excellent work undertaken by people in the Community Transport sector throughout Devon, in recognition of their outstanding service, commitment and contribution. Nominations are welcome for anyone working in Community Transport and are assessed by an independent panel.
The 14th Annual Community Transport Awards Ceremony was held on Friday 7 June, 2013 at County Hall, hosted by the chairman of Devon County Council, Cllr Bernard Hughes. Winners received a certificate and commemorative gift, with additional prizes for individuals and group winners.
This year's Volunteer of the Year Award went to Robert Adams for his dedication and commitment to Holsworthy Rural Community Transport Association - in 2012/13 he drove over 6,000 for the scheme!
In addition, the Outstanding Lifetime Contribution Award was given to Chris Willis for his 16 years service to Go North Devon Ltd, in which he has occupied various roles, including Chairman.
Both winners received a hamper of local Devon produce alongside their certificates.
Other award winners included:
- Best Contribution to the Local Community: Coleridge Community Bus
- Employee of the Year: Andy Lyle, Tavistock Area Support Services.
- Jean Burgess, Kingscare League of Friends
- Christine Chadwick, North Devon Cars
- Karen Oxley, Estaury League of Friends
- Martin Prentice, Holsworthy Rural Community Transport Association
- Keith Walter, Newton Abbot Community Transport Association.
If you would like to become a volunteer we can put you in contact with local Community Transport schemes in your area, where your time and skills will be appreciated.
