Walking
- Set up a ‘Walking Bus’
- Encourage younger pupils to walk through reward schemes e.g. Go for Gold
- Identify and recommend safer walking routes to school
- Highlight places where crossing points for pupils are unsafe and talk with your Road Safety Officer about improvements
- Buy lockers for pupils to use so they do not have to carry heavy bags to school
- Set up a Park and Walk scheme with drop-off points away from the school gate
- Link with your local doctor’s surgery/Primary Care Trust or hospital to promote healthy ways to get to school
- Create a safe and pleasant ‘school zone’with priority given to children
- Demonstrate to parents and pupils the social advantages of walking
