Sustainable School Travel

Public Transport and the School Bus

  • Have a public transport/school bus notice board
  • Write timetables so that pupils can read them easily
  • Set up a travel shop through Business Studies run by students
  • Work with bus providers to get special offers and favourable terms for pupils in and out of school time
  • Identify routes that are not well-served and write to the bus providers
  • Work with pupils on bullying and vandalism to identify solutions to any problems and develop a bus behaviour code
  • Have an escort/conductor on school buses
  • Hold a competition to find your school's favourite bus driver
  • Encourage use of 'greener' buses and taxis
