Road Safety
Devon County Council's Road Safety Team works in partnership with other organisations including the police, health authorities and other local authorities, to improve road safety. In 2007 Devon joined other partners to form The Devon Wider Road Casualty Reduction Partnership DWCRP. We have a team of specialists, including Road Safety Officers.
The County Council also operates the Devon Drivers' Centre which offers practical training and education for anyone who uses the road.
Deaths on Devon's roads increase in 2007.
The loss of 49 lives in 2007 are the highest total in Devon since 2000, and a disappointing increase on the 2006 total of 36 deaths.
Beacon Authority
The Road Safety team have been granted prestigious Beacon status from the Government.
The Beacon status means that the County Council has embarked on sharing its good practices with other local authorities. Road safety practitioners are running open days, conferences and organising learning exchanges, all supported by extra funding from the Government. Devon as part of it's Beacon status will be holding courses on "Evidence Based Practice"
