Student travel

Devon Smartrider

If you are over 16 years old and attend North Devon College or the Sixth Form at Bideford Community College or Ilfracombe Community College you could apply for a Devon Smartrider Student Card.

During the next academic year, from September 2008 to July 2009, the Smartrider Card will cost £270 for new entitled students attending the three colleges mentioned above. However for entitled students in receipt of an appropriate means tested benefit the fee could be waived.

Once you have purchased a Devon Smartrider card you can enjoy;-

  • PREPAID travel to and from college on term days on any bus service operated by your designated bus operator
  • FREE travel on any FIRST or STAGECOACH bus service after 6pm on college days and all day at weekends and during college holidays until 25th July 2009 .
  • DISCOUNTED travel on ALL OTHER BUSES after 6pm on college days and all day at weekends and during college holidays until 25th July 2009

Students who apply and pay, or provide proof of receipt of an appropriate benefit will be sent a Smartrider Card valid for use from mid August 2008. This will provide the benefit of discounted travel throughout August and part of September until the beginning of term at no extra cost.

Students should apply and pay, or provide proof of receipt of an appropriate benefit, before 15th August 2008 to ensure their card is processed in time for the beginning of term. Unfortunately students who have not received their card in time will have to pay daily on public service buses until they receive their card. These fares are not refundable.

FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS

It is hoped to eventually expand the Devon Smartrider Card to other Sixth Form Establishments in Devon.
