2.1 A summary of the Directorate’s refreshed aims and objectives

The aim of Devon Social Services is to:

Identify the social care needs of people in Devon ...

and

... Plan and deliver a range of quality and cost effective services that are responsive to diverse needs, promote independence, equality and social inclusion, and that protect vulnerable people.

We will achieve this aim in partnership with users, carers and colleagues in the statutory, private and voluntary sectors.

Devon Social Services will put users and carers at the centre of everything it does and:

  • Work with them in a fair, honest, consistent and courteous manner, always listening carefully to them and keeping them informed when they ask for help.
  • Fully involve them in planning to meet their needs, ensuring that they know how to comment or complain about any aspect of the service.
  • Recognise the vital role played by carers, and their distinctive needs and views.
  • Treat personal information in confidence.
