Physical Disability

Shared Care - short term break schemes

Shared care schemes aim to provide regular support for children, young people and adults with disabilities, by linking them with approved carers who look after them for short periods of time.

Children's scheme

Devon Social Services, Children and Young People's Services  have developed a contract with NCH, the children’s charity to provide the Family Breaks service for children with special needs.

Adult's scheme

There are currently no schemes available for adults in Devon. However, the South West Adult Placement Scheme (SWAPS) is currently being developed. In the short term this scheme will be offering long term or permanent placement options for adults with disabilities; it will in the longer term be developing short term, shared care opportunities.
