Fulfilling Lives / Short Breaks Service
Introduction
In Devon we aim to provide a range of flexible and varied support for people with learning disabilities planned to suit the needs of each person. We have an ambition for all areas of Devon, to move away from the historic service delivery style and large segregated buildings based services.
In the delivery of this support to people with a learning disability we acknowledge the needs of carers to receive short breaks to help them continue with their valuable family caring role.
To this end we are planning to relocate these services and in many areas, we have relocated to community bases called ' Community Hubs'. However, in some places people have their support in buildings called CRCs (Community Resource Centres). Others are more specialist (i.e. supported employment projects).
We aim to base a person's support on their needs, wants and aspirations. For some people, the support that we provide can often be a stepping stone to employment or community-based activity. For others, they can be a long-term or sometimes permanent placement that enables the individual to learn, socialise and be cared for as well as providing valuable day-time short breaks for carers.
We are constantly reviewing and monitoring the services that we provide in order to ensure that they are of high quality and led by the needs of the people who use them.
