School Library and Learning Resources Service
Outline of Work
Context
The service provider will offer the following to all local authority primary, secondary and special schools in Devon and Torbay:
- Comprehensive support for all aspects of library-related provision and practice, including advice and training.
- Loans of artefacts and works of art and craft for curriculum enrichment.
- Museum education outreach sessions.
Services to be provided
A comprehensive package must include the following elements:
- A deposit collection of books supporting curriculum and leisure reading, maintained through regular exchanges.
- Curriculum-focused resources collections of books and other resources assembled on request to teachers' individual requirements, including:
- authentic and replica items (3D artefacts) covering all areas of the National Curriculum;
- original works of art in both 2D and 3D format, in all artistic mediums (eg oil, water-colour, print, ceramic, glass, etc), together with reproductions prints of important painters;
- educational films to support National Curriculum topics, available in VHS and DVD format.
- A permanent book exhibition of in-print titles relevant to key stages 1-3 to be available at a location in Devon for schools to browse and order titles for purchase.
- Advice, training and practical help on all aspects of school library provision, design, use and promotion, including computerised library management systems.
- Classroom-based sessions covering topics from the History curriculum, delivered by an Outreach Officer using a variety of authentic and replica handling items.
- Disaster recovery support.
Relevant Legislation and Policy
Compliance with Devon County Council policies and regulations.
Statutory Requirements
All staff that have contact with pupils in schools will have successfully gone through an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau check process.
