Health, Safety & Security
Outline of Work
Context
This service should be available to all schools and complement the overview and support provided by the County Council as employer. You will provide a health and safety manual of guidance relevant to the schools to reflect the approved policies of the Education, Arts and Libraries Directorate.
Services to be Provided
The service provides for:
- advice to headteachers, governors and all school based staff on all matters relating to health, safety and security by competent persons;
- access to Helpline service staffed during normal office hours with a specified response time;
- updates on new health and safety legislation, guidance and good practice;
- for secondary and special general, DT, science, PE and art audits for each school within a specified time period and with a written report to include:
- a comprehensive scored assessment of schools' policies and procedures
- details of comparisons, benchmarked with other schools
- recommendations for improvements with follow-up visits where necessary.
- for primary schools a general audit for each school within a specified time period and with a written report;
- a comprehensive scored assessment of schools' policies and procedures
- details of comparisons, benchmarked with other schools
- recommendations for improvements with follow-up visits where necessary.
- to provide a format for self-evaluation audits for schools;
- provide training courses for health and safety co-ordinators, awareness courses for learning communities and other specified courses;
- to provide specified basic training and support to governing bodies;
- training advice and signposting of service providers;
- access to a comprehensive website containing advice, support and guidance;
- induction and support to newly appointed headteachers and new school health and safety co-ordinators;
