Grand Western Canal
The Grand Western Canal Country Park and Local Nature Reserve meanders through beautiful mid-Devon countryside and quiet villages between Tiverton and Lowdwells (near the Somerset border).

Breach of Embankment at the Grand Western Canal
On November 21st 2012, the Canal suffered a major breach of a raised embankment near Halberton. Devon County Council has committed £3m for repairing the breach and undertaking improvements along the Canal. Work to repair the breach is due to be completed by the end of 2012. In the meantime, the Canal is very much open for people to enjoy except for a ¼ mile section around which a short diversion has been set up. Read the latest information >>
New Canal Visitor Centre officially opened
The new Canal Visitor Centre has been officially opened by Chairman of Devon County Council, Cllr Jerry Brook and local Olympic athlete, Jo Pavey. The new £305,000 centre is located in the Canal Basin in Tiverton and is designed to provide visitors with a fun and engaging introduction to the Canals rich natural and industrial heritage and a wealth of information about the many activities that can be enjoyed here.
