Urban Design

The principle aim of the County Council is:
"To conserve and enhance the environment, economy and infrastructure of the County, thereby contributing to the County Council's primary purpose of improving the quality of life and well-being of the people and communities of Devon."

Central to this aim is the delivery of higher standards in urban design, and the promotion of public art and local distinctiveness. This is particularly so in the area described as the public realm, that is the space between buildings. As Highway Authority, the responsibility for much of this space falls on the County Council.

Conservation - If you live in an area of special architectural or historical interest and are considering developing your property please contact the Planning Department at your local district/city council.
