Northern Devon Coast & Countryside Service

The Northern Devon Coast and Countryside Service is a partnership organisation hosted by Devon County Council working for the rural environment in northern Devon.

We are core funded by the Countryside Agency, Devon County Council, North Devon District Council and Torridge District Council and English Nature.

Northern Devon Coast and Countryside Service was established in 1998 after re-structuring the various countryside projects working in the northern Devon area. Its mission is to:

“To work with the community to provide a high quality service for the Northern Devon Coast & Countryside, to secure a sustainable future & safe guard the special character of the area.”

We have three key areas of work, each with its own dedicated team. These are Access and Interpretation, Landscape and Biodiversity and the team that manages the North Devon Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

We are the lead agency responsible for co-ordinating the UNESCO designated Biosphere Reserve centred on Braunton and the Taw/Torridge Estuary. This is the first such designation in the country.
