Audit of Active Aggregate Quarries

Welcome to the web pages relating to the Geodiversity Audit of Active Aggregate Quarries in Devon.

This pilot project is intended to collect, collate, investigate, interpret and record available information on the diversity of the geological features revealed in 16 active quarries in Devon.

The project is being managed and executed by David Roche GeoConsulting. Other project partners are:

  • The Devon Stone Federation, which represents nearly all the aggregate producers in Devon, who are providing essential information from quarry records and access to the operations.
  • The British Geology Survey, which is providing geological information for each site.
  • Devon County Council, which is assisting with the use of electronic methods of information organisation.
  • Mineral Industry Research Organisation, which is providing support with reporting and dissemination methods.
  • The research project is supported by the Mineral Industry Sustainable Technology Programme established by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
