Press Releases
From Louise Raymond, Exeter 383578, October 04,2007
Tiverton Family Festival will be here again later this month (14-21 October) with a host of activities for all. This year's festival will be even bigger and better than the first - thanks to a donation from two local County Councillors' committee budget.
Devon has put itself at the forefront of councils in England by delegating a budget to each councillor to spend in their locality. This means that councillors, who have a good knowledge of their own area, can spend money to maximum effect by making one-off donations to support local community projects.
Councillor Des Hannon and Councillor Mary Turner have allocated a total of £1,000 to the festival (£700 and £300 respectively), making it possible to have bigger and better activities for families right through the week.
The festival is organised by Tiverton parents and schools including Tiverton High School and St John's Primary. It brings grandparents, parents, children and friends together in a fun learning environment. There's something for everyone.
Cllr Des Hannon said: "Last year's festival was a great success and it's going to be even better this time. We all care about our kids and nowadays learning is the key to a good future for them. The festival's serious point is about setting our sights higher, but what makes it really special is that it's great fun too!
"I'm really pleased to be able to put some of my county committee money towards boosting this vibrant event in Tiverton's calendar. Don't forget, everyone who is a child, looks after a child or has been a child is welcome!"
Events include face painting, BMX demonstrations, smoothie making, a bouncy castle, nature trail, family games and Taw Kwon Do demonstrations.
Councillor Mary Turner wished the festival well, saying: "I hope the local community will have loads of fun at this lovely event, and wish it every success."
