Press Releases
From Mike Bomford, Exeter 382173, October 02, 2007
As the nation this week celebrates Customer Service Week, Devon County Council's acclaimed Customer Services launches a dedicated website with information and advice for people with disabilities, their families and carers, throughout Devon.
The telephone based Disability Information Service, which is an important arm of the Council's 'My Devon' customer service, has reported calls in excess of 3,200 in its first year, with calls tripling in the last six months.
To run parallel to the telephone service, the Disability Information Service (DIS) has launched an online version, at www.devon.gov.uk/dis.
Recent research indicates that people want to get information about the Council's services from their website, which is consistently rated in the UK's top ten of central and local government websites.
The DIS website includes advice and information on employment, benefits, transport, equipment, accommodation and leisure.
It links to the Council's social services web pages and to other relevant national websites such as Mind, Action for Blind People and Arthritis Care.
Councillor Des Hannon, the Council's Executive Member for customer services, said:
"This new service will enable even more people to have access to trustworthy advice and information about all aspects of disability."
The Disability Information Service can also be contacted on 0845 155 1005 on textphone 0845 155 1020 or SMS text on 07773 333 231, or email: disabilityinfo@devon.gov.uk
