Press Releases

From Pam Newby, Exeter 383262, October 06,2008

People living in Dartmouth who are trying to trace their family histories received a helping hand at a workshop held at Devon County Council's library in the town.

The highly successful event was attended by experts who showed people how to use websites and databases to access online family records. These included the website www.ancestry.com which is a subscription service with a wide range of databases useful in creating family trees.

Library Assistant Maria Johnson said: "It was a really lively morning. Family history has become hugely popular recently and our experts were able to give advice on getting started. All Devon County Council library users are able to access ancestry.com, free of charge for 30 minutes a day, at any library.

"The workshop was a great success with a really buzzy atmosphere.  Several people have been back to continue their research and I'm hooked now too."
